OPTIMISM

Great day at Memory Matters! The participants in the Connections day program engaged in a really interesting and challenging discussion on “the benefits of an optimistic attitude”.

The word “happy” has many synonyms from ecstatic to exultant and from joyful to heavenly. Between us we uncovered at least 35 words and debated their meanings with each of us seeking the longest word. Well……….supercalifragilisticexpialidocious won the gold star although it was a stretch!

But everyone was in a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious mood today and laughed and sung through the discussion.

Through the eyes of the volunteers we see a significant increase in self esteem as a result of this program and the participants themselves were quite clear that they enjoy contributing to these discussions and often finding solutions to the challenges the Program Directors’ set.
“I love coming here”, and “I enjoy meeting and talking to my friends”.

One gentleman who once was a successful College Professor shared his determination to prolong and enjoy his social life to the full even though he accepts that he has a progressive illness. His self esteem shone through like a beacon for all to see.

Please share this if you believe it could help someone.
